Bay Area residents may anticipate relief from the recent sweltering heat, as a gradual cooling trend is forecast to commence this weekend and extend into the following week. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco, a “Moderate HeatRisk” remains in effect today for portions of the East Bay and South Bay; however, temperatures are expected to diminish soon.

Today’s persistent marine layer continues to envelop coastal areas and the Salinas Valley, resulting in cooler temperatures and overcast conditions during the morning hours in those regions. Nevertheless, the National Weather Service projects another warm day across inland locations, where high temperatures are expected to peak in the upper 80s to 90s for most interior communities.

The agency’s aviation forecast also notes that pilots may encounter challenging conditions. Variability in the marine layer’s depth has created considerable uncertainty, contributing to isolated IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) conditions and lingering stratus clouds near the Golden Gate. This evening, IFR ceilings are again anticipated, accompanied by areas of drizzle and fog, which may affect those planning activities on Bay Area waters.

Mariners should also prepare for a range of conditions offshore. Due to strong northerly winds, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through Saturday morning for select coastal zones. The National Weather Service cautions that gale-force gusts and very rough seas are likely, particularly in the far northwestern coastal waters.
