The Georgia Department of Corrections has just appointed a new Assistant Superintendent for the Smith Transitional Center, as announced by Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. Carl Anderson, who has served as a Unit Manager at Rogers State Prison, is set to bring nearly three decades of experience to his new role, beginning July 16, 2025. His responsibilities will include supporting the Superintendent with the facility's daily operations, overseeing the staff, and supervising male residents.
According to a press release on the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Anderson’s promotion is the result of a long and dedicated career within the corrections system. "Carl has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic while working his way up through ranks during his twenty-nine-year tenure," Commissioner Oliver stated. Anderson's climb up the ladder began in 1996, starting from scratch as a Correctional Officer at Georgia State Prison. From there, he steadily rose to positions as Sergeant and Lieutenant before landing the Unit Manager role at Rogers SP.
Anderson is a seasoned veteran in departmental training, having undergone courses in Basic Correctional Officer Training, Correctional Emergency Response Training, Tactical Squad Basic Training, Fire Inspector Training, and Supervision levels I through III. Beyond his correctional service, Anderson has also showcased his dedication to service by serving in the United States Army and the Georgia National Guard, an aspect of his resume that speaks to his leadership and discipline.
As Anderson gears up to assume his new role at Smith Transitional Center, the Georgia Department of Corrections expresses a strong confidence in his capabilities. "We are confident he will continue to uphold the values and mission of the agency while taking on her new role as Assistant Superintendent," said Commissioner Oliver. Anderson's history suggests a future at Smith Transitional Center where diligence and a commitment to structure will likely be at the fore.
