
Yesterday, a disruption shattered the stillness of Carlsbad Village when an altercation led to the tragic death of an adult male outside the Cole Library. According to a report by the city's Police Department, a call was received at about 2:17 AM, detailing a violent incident involving 52-year-old Carlsbad resident Homero Duran, as per the City of Carlsbad.
Aided by the description provided by the caller, Carlsbad Police officers and Carlsbad Fire Department personnel hurried to the scene, only to discover the victim, injured and unconscious. Despite attempts at resuscitation, life-saving measures proved futile, and the man was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, in the darkness searching for the attacker, officers canvassed nearby streets.
The alleged perpetrator, Homero Duran, didn't elude capture for long. Just over two hours later, at approximately 4:48 AM, he was located and detained without incident near the intersection of Tyler Street and Walnut Avenue and was subsequently arrested. Duran now faces a charge of murder under PC 187, as noted by authorities, and is being held at the Vista Detention Facility.
