A Carroll County man is now behind bars on charges stemming from an incident that involved the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl in Georgia. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office responded to an emergency call just before 5 p.m. on July 4 at a residence on Old Highway 27 South in Roopville. A suspect, identified as Nicholas Gosdin, allegedly attempted to lure the child by discussing construction materials before trying to physically restrain her.

The girl was able to escape and alert her family, who confronted Gosdin. He fled the scene on foot after the encounter. According to WJCL, Gosdin proceeded to approach an elderly neighbor, asking to enter their home, but the request was denied. He then continued to flee towards a wooded area near Roopville Elementary School. A vigilant witness followed him by vehicle and another person detained him near the school's baseball fields until law enforcement arrived.

Gosdin now faces multiple charges that include simple battery, cruelty to children, false imprisonment, and kidnapping. In a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, officials stated that he was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County Jail. During a court appearance on Monday, he was denied bond.

The investigation is still in progress, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the probe. Authorities are seeking assistance from the public to gather more evidence. They urge anyone with home surveillance or doorbell video from the area, or who may have seen Gosdin near the time of the incident, to contact Investigator Ametrice Jackson at 770-830-5916 or via email at [email protected], according to WJCL.

Additional details on the child involved will not be released due to the sensitive nature of the case. Gosdin's motivations for being in the area and approaching the victim remain unclear at this time.
