Chelsea Police Department's officers scored a win against drug trafficking in their community by apprehending two individuals on July 7, following a proactive patrol in a known narcotics hub, as detailed on the Chelsea Police Department's post. The arrest occurred when a routine patrol in Chelsea's impact patrol area led to the discovery of apparent drug activity involving a suspiciously parked vehicle and its occupants.

During the incident near the intersection of Shurtleff Street and Grove Street, the tasked officer noticed multiple individuals dispersing from a black 2008 Ford Escape, which tipped off a closer examination and ultimately a search that unearthed a large cache of illegal substances the police found 48 Buprenorphine & Naloxone sublingual films, 69.5 Buprenorphine tablets, Suboxone films, and several bags marked with suspicion of containing cocaine, crack cocaine, and the lethal fentanyl, also there were paraphernalia within a tactical-style bag such as a scale, knives and cash, according to the Chelsea Police Department’s post.

Arrestees Cory R. Linnell, 39, and Kristen M. Barnett, 35, both Chelsea residents, now face numerous charges related to the possession and intent to distribute the substances found. The Chelsea Police Department detailed that Linnell is charged with possession of Class A Substance (Fentanyl) – Subsequent Offense, possession with intent to distribute Class A Substance (Fentanyl) - Subsequent Offense, possession of Class B Substance (Cocaine, Suboxone, Crack Cocaine) – Subsequent Offense (2 counts), and carrying a dangerous weapon, while Barnett faces charges for possession of Class A Substance (Fentanyl) (2 counts), possession with intent to distribute Class B Substance (Cocaine), and possession of Class E Substance (Buprenorphine tablets).

"This arrest reflects the department’s continued efforts to address drug activity through directed patrols, proactive policing, and community engagement," Chief Keith Houghton stated, reaffirming their commitment to the safety of the residents, Chelsea Police Department encourages the public to report illegal activities by contacting them or submitting tips through diverse channels which include the department’s social media platforms and a dedicated tip line.
