Residents of Greater Grand Crossing are on alert as a spate of burglaries has hit the neighborhood, prompting warnings from the Chicago Police Department. According to a community alert issued, an unknown assailant or group is breaking into homes through side windows and removing items like major household products.
The incidents occurred within a short span of each other, both taking place on the 7100 block of S. Yale. The first burglary was reported on July 14 at approximately 11:12 a.m., while the second was just days later, on July 17 at around the same time of day. As authorities work to closely investigate these break-ins, residents are being urged to stay vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activity that they may notice in their surroundings.
Descriptions of the offender or offenders remain vague, as the police have yet to identify any suspects. This uncertainty has left the community to grapple with unease, knowing that someone is targeting their homes. They are encouraged to remember any potential identifying characteristics, scars, limps, acne, or distinctive teeth, that could help law enforcement in their investigation and potentially put a halt to further incidents.
With safety being paramount, the CPD advises against confronting or pursuing the burglars. Instead, residents should focus on preserving evidence and assisting police after the crime. "If video surveillance is available, save a copy of the incident for detectives," the CPD suggests, emphasizing the importance of such evidence.
