
A tragic event unfolded near Lake Michigan's South Shore as 31-year-old Surah Amon was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the drowning of a one-year-old boy, according to ABC7 Chicago. The Chicago Police disclosed that they were called to an emergency in the 7000-block of S. South Shore Drive last Friday around 9:45 p.m., where they found Amon in the water.
The infant was retrieved from the lake by the Chicago Fire Department's Marine Unit and rushed to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Further investigation revealed that the child was allegedly drowned by Amon. She is from Chicago's Burnside neighborhood and now faces two counts of murder, one of which includes the charge of murder with strong probability of death or injury, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
Following the arrest, Amon was scheduled for an detention hearing on Monday. Details around the incident remain limited, but Chicago area detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the boy's death. As of now, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not made the boy’s identity public.
