A tragic incident unfolded in Chula Vista yesterday, when a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs struck a pedestrian, resulting in a fatality. The Chula Vista Police Department released information that the crash occurred on the 4200 block of Bonita Road around 1:27 pm. While traveling eastbound, an aqua green Toyota Prius failed to handle a turn, subsequently colliding with a parked vehicle, before veering onto the sidewalk and hitting a 46-year-old maintenance worker.
The maintenance worker received immediate medical attention from responders; however, they were pronounced dead at the scene, marking a somber moment for the community, officials said the driver of the Prius, Alexander Heydari a 28-year-old local resident, stayed at the accident site and did not sustain injuries during the collision. He is now in custody, facing charges of vehicular manslaughter while impaired after an evaluation indicated impairment due to drugs.
As the Chula Vista Police Department continues its investigation to understand the cause of the collision, they urge any witnesses or individuals with further information to step forward. A dedicated Traffic Bureau is managing the inquiry into the events that led up to this devastating incident.
