As the summer season winds down, Cobb County is kicking into high gear to ensure its children are prepared for the upcoming school year with several back-to-school events and supply drives. Cobb County public schools and Marietta schools are poised to welcome back students on Aug. 4 and Aug. 1, respectively, and the community is rising to the occasion by rallying behind efforts to collect school supplies for students in need.
In the spirit of community support, the District Attorney's Office is active with its School Supply Drive, which runs until Aug. 15. The initiative is gathering resources for local youths at Marietta PAL Youth, Compton Elementary School, Mableton Elementary School, Clarkdale Elementary School, and Osborne High School, "As you shop for back-to-school supplies, if you are able, please buy a few extra items to support our school supply drives," the office encourages the public for donations of notebooks, pencils, folders, crayons, and more, which can be dropped off at the Cobb County Superior Courthouse and RedBud Blossom Family Justice Center, according to an announcement made by Cobb County communications.
Similarly, the Cobb County Police Department is partnering with Cool Kids Committee Inc. for the Backpacks and Badges School Supply Drive, aiming to load backpacks with essential supplies to be distributed at the National Night Out event on Aug. 5, a prime opportunity for community bonding and support for the next generation. Donation points are available at any Cobb County Police Precinct and Austell Market Suites, with a particular need for new backpacks and educational materials, as detailed by Cobb County's official communications office.
Moreover, the "Backing the Need" Backpack and School Supply Drive beckons to the hearts of donors until July 18, culminating in an event on July 19 at the Cobb Civic Center, which promises fun alongside the charitable cause, attendees can meet "Rose" the comfort dog and revel in performances by the Cobb PALS Youth Step Team, for a blend of merriment and nobility. Alongside physical drop-off points, supporters are also encouraged to shop and ship from online wish lists available through Amazon and Walmart, with 100% of monetary donations going towards purchasing further backpacks and school supplies, a testament to Cobb County's dedication to ensuring that no child is left unprepared for the first day of school - it's not just about handing out supplies, it's about instilling confidence, as captured by the sentiment expressed on the event's official donation page.
The giving spirit doesn't stop there, with the Cobb 911 and Marietta Police Department hosting a School Supply Giveaway on July 21, no RSVP necessary, and a grand Back-2-School Cobb event gracing the calendar on July 26, featuring games, inflatables, crafts, and crucial school supplies giveaway at Jim R. Miller Park. These events are open to Cobb County residents who will need to provide proof of residency or the name of their child’s school to receive free supplies, details and registration are accessible via their website. The call to action doesn't exclude teachers, who are also welcome to pick up free supplies for their classrooms; for more information, parents and educators can visit the Cobb County government news page.
