The Town of Davie is gearing up to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month, starting with some special holiday hours and events in observance of Independence Day. According to information from the Town's official announcement, government offices will shut down for the holiday on Thursday, July 3, and Friday, July 4, with normal business resuming the following Monday.

During the holiday, Davie's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department's offices will take a break, but that won’t stop residents from taking advantage of facilities like the Pine Island Multipurpose Center that will be open on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; though on Friday, it will be closed all day. Town parks and restrooms will welcome visitors from 9 a.m. to sunset, yet selected parks like Driftwood, Shenandoah, Waterford, and Waverly Park will close a little later at 9 p.m., but Pine Island Park's going to shut its doors even later at 10 p.m.

For those looking to dip their toes in the water during the holiday, the Betty Booth Roberts Pool will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, while the Pine Island Fitness and Aquatic Center will only open its doors on Thursday, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., staying closed through Independence Day. The official statement also notes that residents can look forward to trash and bulk pickup services running as per usual on Friday, urging the community to follow solid waste guidelines.

The Town's Green and Blue bus routes will continue navigating their normal schedules, while the Tri-Rail/SFEC campus shuttle takes a holiday halt. Firework safety is a priority, with the Davie Police Department and Code Compliance Division disseminating safety signs and activating a “Firework Hotline” from July 3 at 7 p.m., through July 6, at 7 p.m., for reporting illegal fireworks, although for those facing an emergency, 911 remains the go-to option.
