In a turn of events yesterday, a driver involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in North Miami escalated the situation by discharging a firearm. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the crash, which included five vehicles, occurred shortly before midnight on the northbound side of I-95 near Northwest 125th Street. Among these vehicles was a white Jaguar SUV, the driver of which, after the collision, brandished a gun and fired from within the confines of his vehicle, as Local 10 News covered the incident.
Emergency services responded promptly to the incident, securing the area and beginning the cleanup of debris and broken glass scattered across the roadway. According to NBC Miami, no injuries were reported in connection with either the crash or the gunfire that followed. The Florida Highway Patrol took the suspected shooter into custody without further incident and confirmed that the individual was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash.
The aftermath of the incident continued to impact traffic and safety on the highway, with a strong presence of law enforcement and emergency personnel remaining on the scene into the overnight hours. Tow trucks and cleanup crews were seen addressing the aftermath, ensuring that normalcy could be restored to this segment of highway life. The FHP has confirmed that the Jaguar's driver will be transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after receiving medical clearance, though his age and identity have not been disclosed as of yet.
