Residents looking to enjoy the summer days at local playgrounds may need to adjust their plans as the Parks and Recreation Department gears up for some necessary tune-ups. According to the City of Las Cruces, a trio of public parks in our area will see temporary closures due to repairs on their cushioned play surfaces.
Starting the game of tag, the East Mesa Recreation Center Park, alongside Gus Vlachakis Park and Pioneer Woman’s Park, won't be in play come July 8-9. The reason being? Their rubberized battlegrounds, designed to soften the inevitable falls of youth, are getting patched up, a safety measure that cannot be understated. During these dates, the playgrounds will be closed to let the new surfacing material set properly.
Officials from the Parks and Recreation Department are calling on the community to respect the project areas during the interruption. Signage and barriers will be in place, and the public is urged to keep out of the barricaded zones for their safety and to ensure the repairs can go smoothly.
