A tragic incident occurred last night at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 10th Avenue North in Nashville when a 73-year-old man was fatally injured after falling into the street and being hit by an SUV. As reported by the Metro Nashville Police Department, the pedestrian was walking along the sidewalk before the accident happened, close to 5:40 p.m.
While stumbling on the southeast corner of the intersection, the man unfortunately fell into the path of oncoming traffic. At the same time, a 40-year-old Nashville man driving a Lexus SUV made a right turn from 10th Avenue North and struck the victim. The driver stopped immediately after the collision. The SUV, being driven and coincided with the fall of the pedestrian, creating a tragic circumstance of timing and fate.
Nashville authorities, alongside emergency responders, acted quickly following the incident. The unidentified man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with hopes high, where, despite best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The driver involved has fully cooperated with law enforcement, and there has been no immediate indication of any charges pending.
The Metro Nashville Police explained in their statement that a police chaplain is engaged in the delicate task of notifying the next of kin after the pedestrian's death. Striving to provide comfort in a time of such sudden grief, the chaplain's role, never easy, becomes a gentle bridge between the cold facts of the accident and the warm memories held by those who knew the victim. Our hearts go out to the family during this difficult time.
