At approximately 3:50 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Lake Street, a 20-year-old male driver ran a red light and collided with a southbound Chevy sedan. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, a 22-year-old passenger in the Ford was subsequently taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The impact of the crash left to quickly take the Ford's driver and the two 20-year-old passengers to Stroger Hospital, reported in fair condition, with the specifics of their injuries not disclosed. The occupants of the Chevy, a 37-year-old woman driving and her 35-year-old female passenger, refused medical attention at the scene. As shared by Fox 32 Chicago, citations for the Ford's driver are pending as the Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents Unit takes the lead in the investigation.
The streets in this part of the city, often bustling by day, were witness to sudden calamity in the quiet of the pre-dawn hours. Authorities have not released the names of those involved, acknowledging the sensitivity and the necessity for next-of-kin notifications.
