Whitney Blake Purvis, once a teen on MTV's "16 & Pregnant," has been taken into custody and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter following a drug-related death in Georgia. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Purvis is accused in the overdose of John Mark Harris on the night of February 16. Reports detail that when officers arrived at a home on 8th Street in Rome, they found Harris deceased with signs of drug use at the scene.
Besides the involuntary manslaughter charge, Purvis faces allegations of deliberately providing Harris with "Tranq," a lethal mix of Xylazine and Fentanyl, which police say led to Harris' overdose. To further add to her legal challenges, Purvis has been hit with two more charges involving controlled substances, including possession with the intent to distribute. This unfortunate set of circumstances for Purvis unfolds just over a month following the loss of her son, Weston Gosa Jr., a child whose arrival was captured during the first season of the MTV series. The Ashley's Reality Roundup notes that her son died at age 16, though the cause await confirmation from an autopsy's results.
The string of Purvis' encounters with the law is long and complex. Her history with legal troubles extends back with past arrests, such as shoplifting, contempt of court over child support payments, and more significant allegations including making felony terroristic threats and acts. She had been questioned by police in 2021 for purportedly threatening her ex, Weston Gosa Sr., via text message and was arrested in 2015 for criminal trespassing and aggravated assault. Most recently, she was apprehended almost one year ago for failing to pay close to $20,000 in child support to Gosa Sr.
During these tumultuous times, the trajectory of Whitney's life, once captured in the full glow of reality TV celebrity, has markedly shifted. Her role as a young mother in the public eye quickly has turned into a series of legal battles and personal loss. While information regarding the current charges is still unfolding, TMZ stated that at the time of Weston Jr.'s death, the teenager was residing with his father and stepmother, Amy, who had raised him and his brother River.
