Georgia motorists have seen a nominal uptick in pump prices this week, as reported by AAA. The average cost for a gallon of gas edged one penny higher to $2.91, grounding in the stability of crude oil markets. Crossing over to a broader perspective, the national average hovers unchanged at $3.14, a sigh of relief for drivers coast-to-coast, as reported by WSB Radio.

Last month recorded a four-cent decline from the current gas price in Georgia, however, drivers are still pocketing savings compared to the 42-cent difference from the previous year's figures. Despite the recent climb "Drivers are feeling the slower pace of summer at the pump," as put by AAA in its weekly fuel update. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, has spoken to a forecast: "Oil prices continue to hover in the mid-to-upper $60s, and with gasoline demand starting to ease as we head into August, we could see prices gradually decline as we approach Labor Day," as noted by FOX5 Atlanta.

While the local average in Georgia settles at $2.91, city-specific rates show slight variances. Atlanta drivers are paying around $2.93 per gallon, a small rise over the past week but simultaneously, a standstill from last month and a 41-cent drop year-over-year. Notably, the lowest reported gas price in the Atlanta area caught attention at $2.49 per gallon, with the highest cresting to $3.99, as per data from GasBuddy.

Considering the gas prices in neighboring cities, we see a pattern of minor increments. Chattanooga sits at an average of $2.69 per gallon, up 4 cents from the prior week, while Macon's prices have risen by 6 cents, reaching $2.86. In line with these trends, nationwide extremes can be found in California, where the average for regular unleaded has hit $4.48, though Mississippi enjoys the least pinch at the pocket with an average of $2.70, with Louisiana and Oklahoma tallying up at a similar $2.77, AAA noted.

Looking beyond the liquid fuel markets, electric vehicle (EV) owners in the U.S. are experiencing steady electricity costs for charging. The average rate for public EV charging stations remains at 36 cents per kilowatt-hour. "It’s been another relatively quiet week for average gas prices," De Haan told FOX5 Atlanta, suggesting a maintained balance for motorists, both gasoline and electric vehicle users, as summer travel gradually winds down.
