As Indianapolis braces for a mixed bag of weather this week, the National Weather Service predicts a high likelihood of showers and thunderstorms in the coming days. According to the latest update from the NWS, today could see probable thunderstorms after 3 pm, following patchy morning fog. The rest of the day's outlook includes mostly cloudy skies and a high near 87 degrees, with new rainfall potentially ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
The evenings aren't looking much drier either, especially tonight, with storm chances continuing at 70% before 8 pm, then showers and possible thunderstorms afterward. The temperature will drop only modestly to a low around 73 degrees. Moving into the weekend, the area may see scattered showers and thunderstorms with an increased chance of precipitation at 80%, while the start of the work week won't offer much reprieve as Monday holds a 50% chance of more showers and potential thunderstorms.
As the week wears on, the thermostat is set to rise, with Wednesday's high near 92 degrees and climbing. "Heat indices over 100 degrees will be possible from Wednesday onward," the NWS cautions. The mix of high temperatures and thunderstorm activity warrants attention, as the potential for severe weather and hazardous conditions, including flash flooding, remains a possibility. Spotter activation may be needed to help monitor these events.
By midweek, residents can expect predominately sunny days, with temperatures continuing to bake the city. Wednesday and Thursday both project highs in the low 90s, with sizzling conditions likely affecting outdoor activities. As the week progresses, thunderstorm chances diminish slightly to 20 percent on Thursday night, before ramping back up on Friday. The NWS advises the public to stay informed on weather updates, as conditions can change rapidly and may lead to serious weather hazards.
