On the eve of Independence Day, Indianapolis residents faced an outbreak of violence that left two injured in a shooting. According to an IMPD News social media post, IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives have made an arrest in connection with the incident that rattled the city.
Responding to a report of gunfire on Thursday, officers arrived at the 4000 block of Meadows Way, uncovering a victim injured by gunshot wounds and another with a graze wound. The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect named John Ellis-Strayhorn, who, after fleeing the scene, was found with a firearm and arrested by the police with assistance from the SWAT team.
Ellis-Strayhorn now faces preliminary charges including Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery. With the seriousness of the crime underlined by his prior status as a serious violent felon and an existing federal warrant for escape, the implications for the community and the judicial system loom large.
While the accused is currently held responsible for the violence, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) reserves the right to shape the final charges. Keeping in mind that an arrest is not a conviction, as the IMPD News post stated: "An arrest is merely an accusation; the individual arrested should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." Details about the case are ongoing, highlighted by the case number IP250057435.
