Indianapolis residents woke up to the news of a young man's arrest tied to a July 4th murder. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department apprehended 20-year-old Eython Garcia on charges of murder and attempted murder among other counts, as detailed on the IMPD's official Facebook page. The arrest is connected to an incident at Eagle Creek Park, where officers found two men with gunshot wounds, leading to the death of David Lira-Mojica after being transported in critical condition to a local hospital.
IMPD Homicide Detectives and various units, including the K9 and Aviation Units, promptly responded to the scene. After initial suspects were taken into custody and later released pending further investigation, detectives continued their work in the area, collecting evidence and witness statements. They were, looking for the exact piece that could crystalize their fragmented notions of justice into something concrete and undeniable. It was through this rigorous process that they tagged Garcia as the key player in this violent act.
As a result of determined detective work and coordination with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, a murder warrant for Garcia was issuedyesterday, and he was captured in a matter of hours by the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Charges against Garcia include murder, attempted murder, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness. While an arrest has been made, the IMPD statement reminds the public that an arrest "is merely an accusation, and the suspect should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."
