Statesville Police Department has announced the promotion of Captain John C. Galliher to the post of Assistant Police Chief, a significant leadership upgrade within the ranks. According to a social media post by the department, Galliher, who has loyally served Statesville PD since 2010, is taking over new responsibilities including the oversight of the Criminal Investigations and Narcotics divisions, as well as the agency’s Communications Center and Records Division.
Starting his tenure as a sponsored member through Basic Law Enforcement Training, Galliher has climbed the ranks from Patrol Division on A Squad to his most recent position, as Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division. Over time, he has taken on roles such as a Patrol Officer, Investigator/Corporal, Sergeant, and Captain, each with its unique challenges and demands. These experiences are anticipated to lend significant weight to his new position, especially during a period of notable growth for the department.
Assistant Chief Galliher is not just about claclaiming awards and ascending through professional echelons—he's also a dedicated academic, advancing his education in public administration with a master's pursuit. His accolades, as noted in the department's announcement, include an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate, the SPD Life-Saving Award of 2011 and training credentials from the Southern Police Institute and FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy.
Excited about the prospects Assistant Chief Galliher brings to the table, Chief David Onley said, "Assistant Chief Galliher brings valuable experience, a thoughtful leadership style, and a deep understanding of our community to this important position. His dedication to the Statesville Police Department and to the citizens we serve makes him well-suited to help guide the department forward."
