
The Louisiana State Police has welcomed a seasoned veteran to a top position within its ranks, as Major Robert "Bo" Lummus ascends to the role of Lieutenant Colonel and Deputy Superintendent of the Bureau of Investigations. With a tenure of 27 years in law enforcement, Lummus brings a depth of field experience and leadership acumen to an office at the heart of state criminal investigations and intelligence gathering. This notable appointment comes at a time when the Bureau oversees not just typical criminal investigations, but also specialized units such as the Force Investigation Unit, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Special Investigations Division, and the Gaming Enforcement Division.
Having displayed substantial dedication to the force, LTC Lummus’ career progression within the Louisiana State Police has been marked by stints as a Patrol Trooper, a Criminal Intelligence Unit Trooper, and a sniper on the LSP SWAT team, beginning his distinguished service in Troop G stationed in Bossier City. His journey has been characterized by consistent advancement through the ranks, supervising Criminal Investigations and Intelligence operations and more recently serving as the Statewide CID Major and Command Inspector before his latest promotion. His time at the department has witnessed his direct involvement in developing training programs that have fortified the capabilities of the Bureau of Investigations.
In addition to his operational roles, Lummus’ expertise was highly sought in critical response strategies as evidenced by his position as the Emergency Support Function Manager for Northwest Louisiana, where he commanded efforts during the pandemic and trust in his leadership was not misplaced as he effectively managed crucial responses to public health emergency and other high-stake situations, demonstrating his agility to command in crisis. His experience extends to leading high-profile cases, covering multifaceted violent crimes, officer-involved shootings, and presiding over major events that include mass gatherings and community disturbances, according to a statement from the Louisiana State Police.
Prior to his extensive service with LSP, LTC Lummus dedicated a decade to the Shreveport Police Department, honing his tactical acumen as a team leader in the Narcotics Unit and as a sniper with the Special Response Team, deep-dive specialization in narcotics and tactical interventions that have significantly contributed to his comprehensive law enforcement profile. His proficiency is further bolstered by a profound educational background including honors from the DEA Drug Unit Commander's Academy and the FBI LEEDA's Leadership Institute where he was bestowed with the Trilogy Award, in addition to his proficiency he has been recognized for his bravery and leadership through awards such as the Louisiana State Police Medal of Valor, the Plainclothes Trooper of the Year, among other meritorious acknowledgments.
