In the heart of Miami-Dade County, a call to action has been issued for residents to swiftly step up and open their homes to the numerous pets waiting for adoption. Miami-Dade County Animal Services is partnering with PetSmart Charities during the upcoming National Adoption Week, slated for July 21 - 27, at two PetSmart locations in Miami. This effort comes as shelters experience high volume, and Animal Services seeks to find as many homes as possible for these adoptable pets, as detailed by the county's website.
The initiative is poised to not only enrich lives but also to significantly unburden the crowded shelters. A recent boon for the campaign came in the form of a $45,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, which has already facilitated around 140 pets finding new homes. Over time, in-store events, like the upcoming adoption drive, have seen more than 11 million pets adopted with support from PetSmart Charities. Individuals interested in welcoming new furry members to their family can visit the adoptable pets between 11 AM and 3 PM at the designated PetSmart stores on W. Flagler Street and SW 88th Street in Miami.
With a wide variety of pets available, including those of all ages and breeds, the campaign ensures that future owners can find a suitable match considering lifestyle and preferences. "Our local shelter and rescue partners are overflowing with animals looking for people to love," Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities, told Miami-Dade County. She added, "Adopting or fostering a pet not only enriches your life but is the best way to support your community and local partners like Animal Services in their lifesaving work."
Annette Jose, Director of Miami-Dade County Animal Services, said, "PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week provides an incredible opportunity for us to connect with the community and help more pets find forever homes." She emphasized the shelter's role in serving one of the highest intakes in a large population, a challenge they're equipped to tackle, especially with the financial boost from the recent grant. This funding aims to ensure that each pet receives the care and recognition necessary to find the ideal forever family, effectively increasing adoptions and strengthening local ties within the community, according to the same press release.
For those interested in adopting, the complete list of adoptable pets can be viewed at the Miami-Dade County Animal Services website. The PetSmart stores participating in National Adoption Week are located at 8241 W. Flagler St Miami, FL 33144 and 16514 SW 88th St Miami, FL 33196.
