Milton's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) will convene today to weigh in on some sweet prospects for the city's youth. According to the official city announcement, the meeting's agenda includes the introduction of a potential new youth dance program and a baking-centered class where participants can hone the art of cake and cupcake decoration. The discussion is set to take place at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers or can be streamed online for those preferring the digital route.
Among other items, PRAB, tasked with advising City staff and leaders on recreational direction, will kick off their meeting with the formalities of approving past records and delving into committee reports. Laid out in the city's meeting agenda, these touchpoints cover updates from an array of programs aimed at cultural arts, outdoor activities, and athletics—including standbys like baseball and swimming. Notably on the table for discussion is the Junior Rangers program, where youth engage with the natural world and can earn recognition for their explorative achievements.
In terms of proposed ventures, PRAB is slated to deliberate over two potential partnerships that, if green-lit, would operate out of municipal facilities offering discounted rates to residents. Little River Ballet is on deck, aspiring to be Milton’s latest addition for aspiring young dancers aged 3 to 10. Also on the docket is a culinary pitch by local licensed baker Karen B Cakes, eyeing to sweeten the city's recreational palate with classes and workshops in cake and cupcake ornamentation, as detailed by the city's official website.
After hashing out new business, the session will then segue into updates. Parks and Rec staff are poised to shine a light on the upcoming Wall of Fame inductees, a nod to those who’ve made a significant mark in Milton's recreational tapestry. A peek at their seventh class roster is angled for a fall reveal, for those marking their calendars. Additional updates include a practical discussion of field allocations and a briefing on enhancements at multiple city parks, such as the Legacy Park's parking lot expansion and improvements to Milton City Park and Preserve's active area with tennis court additions and playground installations. The board meeting will mark its closure by pinning down the next date of rendezvous for August 21.
