A routine patrol turned into a bust when Mt. Juliet Police officers spotted something out of the ordinary at a local Academy Sports. According to a social media post from the Mt. Juliet Police, the scene unfolded when an officer noticed a car with its license plate mysteriously obscured by a plastic grocery bag.

The situation quickly escalated as the officer witnessed a woman rush out of the store, clumsily loaded with merchandise. Though she tried to make a quick escape and attempted to suddenly jump into the waiting vehicle, the 33-year-old Nashville woman was apprehended. "One of our officers noticed a suspicious car parked at Academy Sports with its license plate partially covered by a plastic grocery bag," the Mt. Juliet Police shared in their post.

But the web of theft stretched further. Two other individuals, a 74-year-old man with a shoplifting warrant out of Wilson County, and a 53-year-old man aiding in the theft, were found to be complicit. Inside the car laid a stash of stolen goods and the tools meant to neutralize anti-theft devices, a nefarious toolkit for their criminal buffet. This trio was no stranger to the art of theft, as they were also connected to a previous incident at the same location just days earlier.

Their operation crumbled as officers unearthed both the merchandise and an assortment of illicit substances on the suspects. "The woman was additionally found in possession of crack and fentanyl," the police detailed.
