A major accident on Briley Parkway near the Nashville International Airport resulted in a full closure of the road in both directions, causing significant traffic disruptions this past Saturday. As reported by WSMV, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) confirmed that State Route 155 southbound was closed at Exit 4, Murfreesboro Road, due to a multi-vehicle crash. The disruption extended to the northbound side, where one of two lanes alongside the exit ramp was also blocked.
A diversion was set up to reroute travelers, aiming to slowly reduce the congestion; northbound drivers were redirected at Exit 4, while southbound drivers had to detour at Vultee Boulevard. In a statement obtained by WKRN, a spokesperson for TDOT announced that the crash involved multiple vehicles and an overturned vehicle was reported at around 6:42 p.m. on Saturday. An hour later, they confirmed that all southbound lanes, one northbound lane, and the exit ramp were blocked due to the incident.
Additional updates from TDOT, as noted by Hometown Connect, indicated that the intention was to clear the scene by 1:30 a.m. yesterday. During the intervening time, drivers were to follow the designated diversions. The extent of any injuries incurred during the crash was not immediately disclosed, leaving the state of those involved unclear.
While the TDOT has not yet released detailed information regarding the cause of the crash or the condition of those affected, traffic patterns around the airport remained severely impacted well into the evening.
