On the night of July 19, Lenny W. Weston, 50, was implicated in an assault on a woman who was discovered beaten and bruised on West Vernon Ridge Drive near Mundelein; in response to a 911 call, Lake County Sheriff's Deputies and paramedics arrived at the scene to provide aid to the victim, per the Lake County government's official release.
The following day, an alert deputy spotted Weston driving close to Route 60 and Saunders Road in Lake Forest, leading to a traffic stop and his subsequent arrest, while details from the Lake County government indicate that the victim had lost consciousness during the initial assault, and after regaining consciousness she was able to leave the house where she was found by a passerby.
Upon further investigation, authorities filed charges against Weston, including Aggravated Domestic Battery involving Strangulation, a Class 2 Felony, and two counts of Domestic Battery, Class A Misdemeanors, all related to the assault on the woman found injured on the roadway; and Sheriff's deputies learned that Weston, a convicted felon, potentially possessed firearms leading to the request of a Firearm Restraining Order and Search Warrant.
Consequently, on July 22, the execution of the warrant at Weston’s residence yielded two firearms with extended magazines, along with approximately 230 grams of cannabis found near the weapons, as the Lake County government's statement detailed the new charges against Weston: two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felonies) and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis (Class 4 Felony).
Weston is currently held at the Lake County Jail, awaiting a court appearance set for July 31, and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has successfully petitioned for his detention until the trial; as standard practice underscores, Weston, like all defendants, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
