The Nashville Police Department confirmed the arrest of 15-year-old Demondre Mayfield, the third teen suspected in the fatal shooting of Janiyah Batey on June 30 at the Buffalo Trail Apartments. Mayfield has been charged with criminal homicide and is currently detained at a juvenile detention center, as detailed in a report by Nashville.gov.
The tragic incident occurred during a botched robbery attempt involving Mayfield and his associates, Adarian Graham, 16, Martavious Luster, 16, and Demario Anderson, 16, whom were all determined to have taken part in the criminal act. A chaotic and fatal exchange of gunfire resulted during the crime, leading to the death of both Batey and one of the alleged perpetrators, Anderson, this according to the police investigation.
Graham and Luster were apprehended earlier and are facing similar charges. Their arrests came shortly after the homicide, which sparked a period of intense scrutiny and a widespread manhunt for all individuals involved in the death of the 19-year-old victim.
