A 31-year-old man from New Caney has been charged with arson in relation to two fires that took place in July, one of which trapped an elderly woman inside her mobile home. As reported by KHOU, the suspect, Kyle Anthony Williams, allegedly set the fires in the early hours of July 9 on Ada Lane and now faces two counts of first-degree felony arson.
The first fire, which broke out around 1:48 a.m., was quickly followed by a second blaze at a nearby vacant home at approximately 2:36 a.m. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the elderly woman was rescued through her bedroom window by Deputy C. Wood and Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable D. Fields, just before the fire and EMS crews arrived. The woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening smoke inhalation but has since been released; her health recovered well enough for her to be discharged from the hospital.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office conducted an investigation and deemed both fires to be intentional acts. As per a report by Click2Houston, Williams had made statements admitting to setting the fires and was concerned he had hurt someone. This development came after Williams was apprehended on July 15 by a Galveston County deputy following a failed attempt to flee during a traffic stop and was also wanted on unrelated active warrants from Montgomery County.
Williams's criminal history includes past charges of indecency with a child, family violence, and drug offenses. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where he now also faces a felony for evading arrest. The actions of deputies Wood and Fields, who ensured the elderly victim's safety, along with Galveston County Sheriff's Deputy C. Guyton, who played a pivotal role in locating Williams, have been duly recognized by the fire marshal's office.
