A mid-air scuffle on a Frontier Airlines flight bound for Miami resulted in the arrest of New Jersey resident Ishaan Sharma. According to the arrest report, the altercation with fellow passenger Keanu Evans occurred shortly after the plane had landed at Miami International Airport on Sunday morning. Miami-Dade Sheriff's deputies intervened at Gate F7, following reports of a battery on board Flight 1203, as detailed by Local 10.
Sharma, 21, was accused of attacking Evans without provocation while the victim was returning to his seat. Witness cell phone footage circulated on social media, capturing the intense moments as passengers and flight attendants urged for calm. "Let him go," an unidentified passenger implored during the brawl. Despite attempts to de-escalate, Sharma and Evans were locked in conflict until authorities took control upon landing, as shown in the WSVN coverage.
During his subsequent arrest, Sharma acquired a cut on his face requiring stitches. Evans, on the other hand, refused medical treatment at the scene after sustaining superficial cuts. Social media users Drethedroneguy and r.nichols49 documented the event on Instagram, capturing the aftermath. In the court, Sharma's defense attorney, Renee Gordon, stated, "My client is from a religion where he was meditating," hinting at a potential misunderstanding leading to the confrontation. This statement put forth a narrative diverging from the victim's experience, as Evans had detailed feeling threatened by Sharma prior to the physical altercation, as detailed by Local 10.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Gerald Hubbart set Sharma's bond at $500, with conditions preventing any contact with the victim. Evans, who told WSVN, "What I hate is that the video doesn’t capture what started the whole thing, you know?" lamenting the lack of context in the viral footage. He perceived Sharma's actions prior to the captured incident as threatening, describing unsettling laughter and confrontational remarks.
The motives behind Sharma's actions remain uncertain, and Frontier Airlines has yet to comment on the incident.
