Residents of New Orleans can expect to see a mix of sun and clouds today, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms primarily after 1 pm, according to forecasts by the National Weather Service. The day’s high is expected to reach near 92 degrees, while a calm wind will turn east at about 5 mph in the afternoon. However, there's only a slim 10 percent chance of rain before 7 pm tonight as skies become mostly clear and temperatures drop near 77 degrees. Winds will stay soft, coming from the south around 5 mph before becoming calm in the evening.
The sunny disposition isn't set to last tomorrow, with the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms increasing to 70 percent, mainly after 1 pm. While the day might start out mostly sunny with a high near 90, residents should be prepared to quickly find cover. Light southeast winds will accompany the day's weather patterns. Forecasted rainfall amounts vary, from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, but could be higher in areas hit by thunderstorms. Efforts to remain dry will be equally important on Monday as there's a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly between 1 pm and 4 pm, then again after 4 pm. The day will begin sunny with a high near 92 and see calm winds, later turning west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
The workweek continues with a consistent rhythm of sunshine and thunderstorms. Tuesday rings in with a 60 percent chance of rainfall, again mainly after 1 pm, under mostly sunny skies and a high approaching 93. Winds will blow lightly from the northwest at about 5 mph. The chance of precipitation drops Tuesday night to 20 percent before 1 am as the sky partially clears and the temperature settles around 80 degrees. And on Wednesday, showers and thunderstorms return, likely after 1 pm, as the temperatures climb back near 92 with light northwest winds shifting to the northeast.
Looking toward the latter part of the week, New Orleanians should not be deceived by partly sunny skies as chances of showers and thunderstorms persist through Thursday and into Friday. Highs will hover around the low 90s with variable winds turning from north to east and south to southwest in the afternoons and evenings. Partly sunny conditions on Friday will not do much to abate showers and thunderstorms, with a high expected near 91 degrees.
