The Georgia Department of Corrections has announced a significant promotion within its ranks. Nicholas Brown, previously serving as Deputy Warden of Security at Rutledge State Prison, is stepping up to fill the same role at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP), come August 1. Tasked with overseeing the security staff and managing the containment of 3,704 male offenders, this move places Brown at the heart of one of the state's most critical correctional facilities.

Commissioner Tyrone Oliver, the voice of the GDC, was quoted saying, "Nicholas has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in each position he has held within GDC," in an article by the Georgia Department of Corrections. Oliver's confidence in Brown's abilities is evident, as he noted, "We are confident he will continue to excel as he takes on his new role at GDCP."

Brown's journey with the GDC began in 2008, starting as a Correctional Officer and eventually becoming part of the CERT team two years later. Over the years he climbed the ranks, earning positions such as Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain at GDCP. In 2018, he took on the role of Unit Manager at Burruss Correctional Training Center before taking on Deputy Warden duties at Central State Prison in 2023 and later, at Rutledge in 2024.

An alumnus of Thomas University, Brown holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Law Enforcement. His pursuit of education is ongoing, as he is currently working towards a Master of Public Administration at Savannah State University. His training portfolio is extensive, including certifications and programs through Columbus State University covering management, supervision, and security operations. Among these are also POST Instructor Training, Unit Manager Academy, Deputy Warden of Security Academy, and the Warden's Pre-Command, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections release.
