Residents in Ogden are grappling with a spate of unsettling vandalism incidents, as "ICE RULES" and swastika graffiti have marred the facades of several buildings in the neighborhood. The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert detailing the criminal damage to property within the 10th (Ogden) District. The alert highlights recent acts of defacement, with the symbols of hatred being spray-painted on various properties on the 2700 block of W. Cermak Rd. and the 2500 block of S. Central Park Ave. on July 19th and 20th, respectively.
The timing of the incidents, occurring between midnight and 3:00 a.m., suggests a degree of premeditation by the unknown offender. While the suspect remains at large, a description has been circulated by the authorities. According to the notice, the suspect is identified as a male white, light complexion, standing about 5'08'' to 5'10'', weighing approximately 165-180 pounds, aged between 25-35 years, with short black hair and long sideburns, last seen wearing a black t-shirt adorned with four square logos, blue denim pants, and black gym shoes featuring white soles.
Community members are advised to take precautionary measures in the wake of these incidents. The CPD has encouraged never confronting or pursuing the suspect, and to pay attention to any distinctive features. They advise that if video surveillance is available, individuals should save and provide a copy for the investigating detectives. In the event a witness approaches, residents are urged to gather contact information. The department also emphasized the importance of contacting 9-1-1 immediately if one encounters the perpetrator or witnesses a crime in progress.
For those who have been victims of this criminal damage, the police recommend refraining from touching anything at the crime scene until law enforcement arrives. This approach helps preserve the integrity of potential evidence that could assist in capturing the individual responsible for the defacement. The alert provides a reminder that anyone with information can play a crucial role in ensuring their neighborhood's safety and bringing the offender to justice.
