Leading the charge, a local nonprofit named Be Kind Rescue Dogs has pledged to sponsor all dog adoptions from the shelter today, July 19. In the spirit of community engagement, Paleteria El Paisano, an Oklahoma City ice cream shop, has joined in, offering up 100 ice pops to visitors during the shelter's Pups and Popsicles event. This move pairs refreshments with the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs, making for an inviting atmosphere for potential adopters.
The adoption drive, aptly named Pups and Popsicles, will commence at 11 a.m. and run until noon on the shelter premises. As noted by Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Superintendent Ronnie Schlabs, "Our community has shown that every effort, no matter how small, can make a significant impact." Schlabs expressed gratitude towards Be Kind Rescue Dogs and Paleteria El Paisano for their contributions, emphasizing the various ways the community can rally to support pet adoptions and save lives. Adoption activities will continue from noon to 5 p.m., providing ample time for visitors to connect with their potential new family members.
Dogs adopted during this event will come with the full battery of health checks and preparations. They include spaying or neutering, microchipping, heartworm testing, deworming, current vaccinations and preventives, and they will also be provided with an ID tag and collar. Furthermore, many local veterinarians are extending a gesture of support by offering free medical visits to adopters who present their adoption paperwork.
