The Silver Flat Reservoir in American Fork Canyon became the site of a tragic incident this past Saturday, where a 31-year-old man, whose identity remains undisclosed, lost his life after falling from his paddleboard. According to KSL Newsradio, the man was paddle boarding with a group when he went under the water in the late afternoon and did not resurface. The authorities were alerted, and an extensive search operation ensued.
Multiple agencies, including the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene, with a helicopter joining the search effort. Sgt. Ray Ormond informed KSL Newsradio that in anticipation of a major search, "Most likely what they’ll have to do to try to get all those resources up there is they’ll have to close the Silver Lake area, and try to get people to leave the area and go back down." The unfortunate development led to a temporary closure of the road leading up to Silver Lake to facilitate the search and rescue operations.
The man's body was eventually recovered late Saturday night, as stated in a press release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. The recovery marked a somber end to the search and highlighted the potential dangers inherent in water-based recreational activities. KMYU reported that further details surrounding the incident have remained sparse, with no additional information on the circumstances leading to this tragic outcome provided to the public.
Despite the recovery of the body, the specifics about the exact time of the incident and other details have not been widely shared. The Silver Lake Flat Reservoir is a popular destination located in the scenic American Fork Canyon, north of Tibble Fork Reservoir, according to FOX 13 Now.
