In a recent social media post by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Allen was reported to be involved in a dramatic vehicle pursuit involving an erratic driver. This incident occured last Monday, when Sheriff Allen, while traveling on Highway 70 near Barber Junction Road, observed a Silver Pontiac swerving across lanes. The driver, noted to be holding what seemed to be an open beer can, refused to comply when Sheriff Allen initiated a stop, leading to a pursuit that ended in a local business parking lot.
The suspect, after abandoning the vehicle, attempted to rapidly escape on foot and disappeared into a wooded area. Despite Sheriff Allen's efforts in the immediate foot chase, he lost sight of the individual. Backup deputies, armed with two K-9 units, were able to track down and apprehend the suspect, who was found hiding in a swampy enclave of the woods. The initial post by the Sheriff's Office detailed the pursuit and subsequent capture, adding that the individual provided false information about his identity and lacked any identification.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the suspect later identified through fingerprinting as Galindo Rodriguez Estrada faced multiple charges including Open Container, Resisting a Public Officer, and Failure to Maintain Lane Control. Estrada was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
Following a July 29 interview conducted by an ICE agent, an immigration hold was issued for Estrada, revealed the Sheriff's Office social media update. This detainer will allow the detention center to hold onto Estrada for up to an additional 48 hours past his release date, providing ICE the opportunity to take him into custody for potential removal proceedings.
