The most recent incident, occurring last Saturday, saw police officers rushing to the scene at the 100 block of 4th Street at around 2:54 p.m. Here, they encountered two victims who had been assaulted by the group of girls, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Bystanders intervened to halt the violence, provoking the alleged assailants to flee on foot. The victims received medical attention for their injuries, and officers engaged in a prompt response to track down the suspects.
In a deft coordination of police efforts, the SFPD's Real Time Investigation Center used surveillance footage to identify and dispatch descriptions of the suspects to patrol officers. This quick information sharing led to the Taraval Street Crimes Unit's plainclothes officers locating several individuals at Stonestown Galleria, matching the footage. Following a probable cause investigation, two teenagers, aged 13 and 14, were cited and released on charges of assault likely to produce great bodily injury. An 11-year-old was also detained, and, in line with state law and SFPD policy, she was admonished and released to her parents at the scene.
