San Francisco's adored therapy dog Brixton has been diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma after a battle with irritable bowel disease, a condition exacerbated by an initial misdiagnosis. KRON4 reports that Brixton, known for spreading joy across various community spaces, including schools and hospitals, now faces a different kind of challenge as he begins his battle with cancer.
As explained in a post from Brixton's Instagram account, @brixtonatlarge, the condition was left untreated due to misdiagnosis, which has culminated in a more serious prognosis. With treatments and medical bills mounting, Brixton's caretakers have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the escalating costs. Making their day sunnier, the fundraising plea shares Brixton's story and the impact he has had on the community.
As of the last update, the GoFundMe campaign has garnered $6,359, with an $8,000 goal to assist in managing the therapy dog's medical expenses. In a statement on the GoFundMe page, the plea emphasizes Brixton's dedication to bringing "love, joy, and warm snuggly kisses to millions of people," even in the face of his health challenges.
Alongside financial assistance, Brixton's owner is seeking accommodation due to their unsustainable living situation, particularly with the necessity of carrying Brixton up and down from a second-floor apartment without an elevator. The Instagram post expresses a desire for housing tips and additional fundraising ideas.
