Springfield Police have apprehended an 18-year-old suspect, Malachi Williams, after a series of events that culminated in a carjacking and a vehicle crash involving two homes. The incident began near Elliot Street and Salem Street, where the victim described being robbed of their vehicle at gunpoint earlier on Saturday evening, prior to the police locating the crashed vehicle later that night, as reported by the Springfield Police Department news release.

According to the Springfield Police Department, they were called to the 200 block of Eastern Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. following reports of a car that had been driven into two residential properties, the impact damaging fences, a deck, and front stairs, bystanders then pulled Williams from the crashed car, the same vehicle was identified as stolen from the earlier carjacking incident. Within the vehicle, officers found a fully automatic Ghost Gun, categorized as such due to its lack of a serial number and the presence of a sear-selector switch making it a machine gun.

Williams is facing several charges, including driving a stolen car, driving without a license, leaving the scene of a crash, and multiple gun-related offenses. These include carrying a loaded unlicensed gun, making a gun without a serial number, and having a machine gun. He was hurt in the crash and taken to Baystate for treatment, as per the Springfield Police Department.
