Residents of suburban Elmhurst were compelled to stay indoors Friday morning due to an "ongoing public safety situation" as local police and assisting law enforcement agencies served an arrest warrant, with the operation taking place at a residence by the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue and St. Charles Road, according to NBC Chicago.
The Elmhurst Police Department blocked off roads and instructed neighbors to remain inside amid the operation that began around 6 a.m.; by 7:30 a.m., they apprehended the suspect, reopened the streets. It was through the combined efforts that stability was returned to the everyday flow of the suburban streets, FOX 32 Chicago reports. During the closure, St. Charles Road between Berkley Ave and West Ave was shut down, and residents of Sunnyside Avenue were specifically directed to remain indoors, a situation acknowledged by the police on social media, where they urged the public to abide by the detours and instructions provided.
While the scenario posed interruptions to the regular morning rituals, the police statement on Facebook emphasized the importance of the community's cooperation for their safety, stating "The public is asked to avoid the area of St. Charles Road at Sunnyside Avenue and follow established detours due to an ongoing public safety situation," along with a reminder for impacted residents that more information could be accessed by contacting the Elmhurst Police Department at (630) 530-3050.
Despite the quick resolution of the incident, with the suspect now in custody, information about their identity and potential charges remains undisclosed.
