In a late-night incident in Midvale, a 41-year-old man was left injured, and a 23-year-old suspect was arrested following a shooting. The Unified Police Department reported the victim was found with a gunshot wound near 7200 South and State Street. "They were flagged down by a victim who claimed to have been shot," officials stated in an interview with ABC4, referencing the moment officers were made aware of the crime on Thursday, shortly before midnight.
According to KSL, the suspect was identified as Dakota Pierce, who was apprehended when he returned to the crime scene during the investigation. As detectives searched the area, they discovered several shell casings and eventually recovered a firearm believed to be related to the incident. The Taylorsville police officer, initially from a separate jurisdiction, confirmed the victim's injuries before medical personnel transported the man to the hospital in fair condition.
The area was closed off for investigators to process the scene, as reported by Sgt. Aimee Rayce with UFD. KSLTV detailed that following the discovery of evidence and the arrest of the suspect, the area was later reopened. The victim's current health status has been consistently described as fair, suggesting non-life-threatening injuries, though updates on his condition have not been released since he was hospitalized.
