The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office recently disclosed the identification of a suspect in a hit-and-run case that proved fatal for a young boy in unincorporated Crystal Lake. The incident, a jarring occurrence that took place on July 2, claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy as he rode his bicycle.
Investigators relayed that the tragic crash unfolded around 9:34 p.m., whereupon the suspect’s vehicle collided with the child and then fled the scene. A critical break in the case materialized two days later when the Woodstock Police Department investigated a death at a residence in Woodstock. That is where they discovered a vehicle that matched the description of the one involved in the earlier collision. Woodstock officers connected with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, who then confirmed that the vehicle was indeed the one they were searching for.
Following a more in-depth probe, the individual found dead was identified as the suspect in the hit-and-run. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office website clarifies that no other individuals are suspected to be involved. Accordingly, their search for additional suspects has been halted.
As for the circumstances of the suspect’s death, they are currently under scrutiny by the Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. In the meantime, the community has seen an outreach from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, which, as per the official statement, extends "its deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy." The Sheriff’s Office also acknowledged the partnership of their fellow first responders and the ongoing community support throughout this somber investigation.
