In the early hours before dawn today, an alleged DUI driver caused a severe head-on collision on College Boulevard, just south of Plaza Drive. The Oceanside Police Department reported via social media that the accident resulted in injuries and significant disruptions.
According to the police statement, the crash occurred around 2 AM when a driver suspected of being under the influence fell asleep at the wheel and subsequently veered into oncoming traffic. Both vehicles involved were reported to be heavily damaged. The northbound lanes were to remain closed for approximately two hours while investigative and clean-up operations were conducted.
The driver at fault was taken to a local hospital and is pending felony DUI charges. As the other driver sustained injuries, authorities have yet to disclose the severity and nature of these injuries.
