
An 18-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old boy was wounded late Wednesday in a shooting incident in Chicago's West Lawn neighborhood, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The incident occurred in the 7200 block of South Avers Avenue, where a group of teenagers was walking together before the violence erupted.
According to the ABC 7 Chicago coverage, three individuals within the group brandished firearms and began to rapidly open fire at the other members. The 18-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was immediately taken to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 16-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the cheek and was reported to be in good condition at the same hospital. Following the shooting, the police swiftly pursued the alleged assailants, who had attempted to flee the scene in a rideshare vehicle. The suspects, three 17-year-olds, were apprehended approximately four blocks away from the crime scene.
It was discovered by law enforcement that two firearms were left behind in the rideshare that was utilized to make the getaway. As of now, the Chicago police have stated that charges are pending. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Area One detectives looking into the tragic events of that evening.
