Three individuals now face multiple felony charges after the kidnapping of a 2-year-old girl on the South Side of Chicago. The suspects, a woman and two men, are accused of abducting the girl at gunpoint in an incident that involved a stolen vehicle and home invasion.
The kidnapping occurred early Wednesday morning in the 4800 block of South Michigan Avenue, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The child's biological mother, Angelique Mobley, 22, was identified as one of the kidnappers, alongside accomplices Lamon Weathers, 33, and Matthew Price, 27. After the abduction, the girl was fortunately found unharmed later that evening.
Both the Sun-Times and NBC Chicago confirm that Mobley faces charges of kidnapping, residential burglary, and child abduction. Weathers is charged with aggravated kidnapping and home invasion, while Price's charges include aggravated kidnapping, home invasion, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
According to the details shared by police, the three suspects forced their way into a home before fleeing with the child and a stolen SUV. Mobley and Weathers were apprehended by police on Wednesday evening, while Price was taken into custody shortly after midnight on Thursday. In a statement obtained by NBC Chicago, officials stated that all alleged culprits were "armed with firearms" at the time of the crime.
The trio is expected to make their court appearance for a detention hearing on Saturday. The nature of this crime, especially considering the involvement of the child's biological mother, underscores ongoing concerns about domestic relations and the lengths to which individuals might go amidst disputes. Nonetheless, authorities have ensured the child's safety following the ordeal, marking a small relief in a situation fraught with violations and lawlessness.
