Traffic flow in the Salt Lake Valley is about to get a major uplift. According to UDOT, the intersection at 4700 South and Bangerter Highway will reopen for east-west travel starting tomorrow. This move is expected to significantly ease traffic for both local commuters and regional travelers, marking a key progress point for the ongoing Bangerter Highway interchanges project. An aerial photo released with the announcement shows the extent of construction at the intersection.

Next steps for UDOT include starting to pour the concrete for the new 13400 South bridge deck on July 15 and July 22. By the end of the month, it's anticipated that traffic will commence driving under this newly constructed bridge. Furthermore, Bangerter Highway traffic is slated to pass under the new 9800 South bridge and over the 2700 West bridge by the end of August, as per UDOT's plans.

The Bangerter Highway has been a major project for UDOT for more than a decade, to remove stoplights and transform intersections into freeway-style interchanges for more efficient traffic flow. The current phase focuses on upgrades to key intersections: 4700 South in Taylorsville and West Valley City, 9800 South in South Jordan, 13400 South in Riverton, and 2700 West in Bluffdale.

UDOT has set an ambitious goal to eventually extend these improvements to California Avenue. "Opening 4700 South to east-west traffic is a big milestone that will make a real difference for everyone moving through this area," UDOT Region Two Director Robert Stewart said, according to UDOT. With these projects on track to finish by the end of fall, residents and businesses on the west side can expect to see enhanced safety and movement through these traditionally congested corridors.
