Utah State University's College of Arts & Sciences, also known as ArtSci, launched on July 1, according to a recent article from USU Today. ArtSci represents a merger of three former colleges: Humanities & Social Sciences, Science, and the Caine College of the Arts. Dean Joseph Ward spoke of the faculty and staff's commitment, saying, "Our faculty and staff have rallied to provide uninterrupted services to our students and fellow employees as we enter a new chapter," as per USU Today.
With the new academic year on the horizon, USU is gearing up to fully embrace its land-grant mission of educational transformation and community enhancement. They plan to quickly implement the changes, with anticipation soaring among stakeholders. This revamp not only consolidates departments but is also a strategic move to optimize public resources, triggered by recent state legislation. Professor and director of infrastructure planning Michelle Baker, formerly the dean of the science college, shared, "ArtSci’s administrative efficiency fosters collaborative, innovative research and learning opportunities, aimed at preparing students for meaningful careers," as obtained by USU Today.
The Caine School of the Arts, now a driving force within ArtSci, is devoted to advancing arts and arts education on campus and in local communities. Nicholas Morrison, director of the Caine School of the Arts, highlighted the synergistic effects of the merger. "By aligning our programs and people, we’re broadening student experiences and strengthening community engagement," he told USU Today. "We’re adding value to USU’s traditional strengths in academic excellence and impactful outreach."
