
Tragedy struck Washington County with two serious bicycle-related incidents occurring within hours of each other, authorities report. In the early morning hours of Sunday, a hit and run on NW Dairy Creek Road left a female cyclist severely injured and alone for hours, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived at the scene at 7:17 a.m., responding to a call from passersby who discovered the injured woman. The unidentified driver fled after the crash.
Found outside overnight, the victim sustained serious injuries, including harm to her legs and face. Upon discovery, she was promptly transported to a local trauma center. The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) is spearheading the investigation into this hit and run. "Anyone with information on this crash is encouraged to call non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 and reference case number 50-25-9657," as noted by the County's statement.
The same morning presented another distressing scene, with a second incident occurring at the intersection of NW Old Cornelius Pass Road and NW Cornelius Pass Road, at around 10:56 a.m. Witnesses reported a male bicyclist abruptly crossing into a vehicle's path. The driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, hit the southward-traveling cyclist. Deputies, as they arrived soon after the crash, noted that the bicyclist was seriously injured and needed immediate medical attention.
As officials work to determine the causes behind these tragic events, the identity of the male cyclist involved in the second accident remains unknown. Officials are requesting the public's help, stating, "The bicyclist remains unidentified. Deputies are asking for the public’s help in identifying the bicyclist," which the Washington County Sheriff’s Office stated that callers should reference case number 50-25-9663 when providing any pertinent information to non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111. In light of these accidents, law enforcement officials are issuing a reminder for everyone to share the road responsibly, urging adherence to posted speed limits and the use of appropriate signaling when turning or passing other vehicles.
