A woman from the District of Columbia now faces charges after an altercation involving an FBI agent. Sydney Lori Reid, 44, became embroiled in a physical clash at DC Central Detention Facility on Tuesday. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Reid stands accused of "assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers or employees" as two men, alleged members of the 18th Street gang, were being handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The incident kicked off around 7:30 p.m. when the two individuals, one apprehended on firearm-related charges, were transitioning from local to federal custody. Reid, captured on video, tried to bypass ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers, entering between them and an FBI agent. Persistence on the part of Reid led to the physical confrontation, as she was pushed against a wall and told to stop by one of the ERO officers. Despite this, she "continued to struggle and fight with the officer," the complaint noted.
During the scuffle, Reid's actions resulted in an FBI agent sustaining "bloody lacerations" as her forceful push landed the agent's hand against a concrete wall. The arrest and charges followed this heated encounter, with the Homeland Security Investigations Washington Field Office and the FBI Washington Field Office spearheading the investigation. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Dernbach is tasked with prosecuting the case, as detailed by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro's announcement.
