A Zion man has been arrested after detectives found child pornography on his electronic devices, with many images and videos involving children under the age of 13. Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that the arrest followed after receiving a tip from an online cloud storage service.
The investigation led to a residence on the 3000 block of Gabriel Avenue, where detectives, aided by K9 units specializing in electronic detection, executed a search warrant on July 8, 2025. The canines, Grip and Enzo, were instrumental in aiding the seizure of digital content allegedly belonging to 23-year-old Sergio Guillen. "Thanks to the relentless efforts of our Cyber Crimes Unit, another child predator has been identified and arrested," Sheriff John D. Idleburg stated in a release obtained by Lake County News-Sun.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved three counts of possessing child pornography against Guillen, with the potential for additional charges to surface. In light of the serious nature of these allegations, the State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to detain Guillen pending trial. At his first court appearance, he was ordered to be held in the Lake County Jail until a detention hearing scheduled for the following afternoon.
Idleburg emphasized the ongoing threat posed by sexual offenders to the community and the critical role that both law enforcement and families play in child protection. "Our team works tirelessly to protect kids, but prevention starts at home," he explained. "Please have regular conversations with your children about the dangers of sharing personal information or inappropriate content online," Idleburg added, urging parents to remain vigilant in a statement obtained by Lake County News-Sun. It is important to note that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
