Early Sunday morning, a violent incident occurred in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood that left a 22-year-old man critically wounded after a car crash led to gunfire. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the man was involved in an automobile accident in the 3800 block of West Chicago Avenue when another car arrived on the scene, and a driver stepped out to shoot the man several times in the chest.
The gunfire took place around 1:45 a.m., and following the attack, the victim was urgently taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. As of now, authorities have yet to apprehend the shooter who is reported to have quickly fled the scene. The identity of the gunman remains unconfirmed, and there appears to be no immediate motive for the sudden escalation of violence that followed what began as a mere traffic mishap.
Further details from ABC 7 Chicago indicate that the shooter acted independently of the initial car accident. After the 22-year-old's vehicle was involved in the crash, the assailant's car approached, and the suspect emerged to fire the shots that critically injured the young man, who was then quickly transported by the Chicago Fire Department to the hospital.
